Don Cervantes Introduction
Don Cervantes Cigars, owned by ACC, and inspired by the famous 16th Century Spanish writer, Miguel de Cervantes, have been produced in the Province of Guayas in Ecuador since 1954. The rich fertile soils and climate of the tobacco farms located beside the rivers of the Guayas provide the perfect environment to grow the best tasting and richest tobaccos yet made into a cigar. Today the Don Cervantes brand contains a wide variety of leaf breeds grown in Ecuador as well as some limited and vintage Cuban tobaccos. Breeds such as Criollo, Habano, Habano 2000, Connecticut Shade, and Ecuadoran Sumatra. Mr. Jose Aray Marin, founder of the Don Cervantes factory, developed the world famous Ecuadoran Sumatra breed in 1967. It is now considered the world’s premium cigar wrapper leaf and is in demand by cigar manufacturers worldwide.
All Don Cervantes cigars are naturally fermented several times and aged for at least 3 years and up to 12 years before rolling. This is very time consuming and a rare practice even among the most well known brands. As every cigar aficionado knows, age is a cigar’s best friend! The cigars are blended using a Cuban master blender, leaf by leaf, often combining up to five variations of tobacco breed, age, color, taste and plant tier into one cigar. They are then rolled using a Cuban hand bunching method, which carries back many generations.
